SEDRIS Standards

The SEDRIS Organization works in cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Joint Technical Committee 1 (ISO/IEC JTC 1) to maintain the jointly developed set of International Standards based on the SEDRIS technologies.

The SEDRIS technologies have been assembled into the specifications and associated language bindings shown in the table below. Provided in the subsequent table is the SEDRIS standards development schedule.

Please send your feedback to: se-scrccb@sedris.org. We would like to hear about your experiences using these standards.

    Status
  • SEDRIS Standards Development
  • ISO/IEC 18023-1, 18025 and 18026 allow new concepts to be specified by the registration of new entries to these standards. New entries to the standards are registered using the established procedures of the ISO/IEC Registration Authority for Items.

Information technology - SEDRIS - Part 1: Functional specification

ISO/IEC 18023-1 defines the syntax, semantics and structure for the representation and interchange of environmental data, along with the means to produce and access that data.

Information technology - SEDRIS - Part 3: Transmittal format binary encoding

ISO/IEC 18023-3 defines a binary encoding technique that allows encoding DRM objects specified in ISO/IEC 18023-1 according to the abstract syntax specified in ISO/IEC 18023-2. The name of this binary encoding is SEDRIS Transmittal Format (STF).

Information technology - SEDRIS language bindings - Part 4: C

Access to the information stored in a SEDRIS transmittal is through an API. The abstract specification for this API is defined in ISO/IEC 18023-1. Each part of ISO/IEC 18024 defines the binding of that abstract specification to a particular programming language. ISO/IEC 18024-4 defines a standard binding for the C programming language.

    .
Information technology - Environmental Data Coding Specification (EDCS)

ISO/IEC 18025 provides mechanisms to unambiguously specify objects used to model environmental concepts. A functional interface is also specified.

NOTE:   A database in Microsoft Access format, a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel format and an EDCS Query Tool application are also available.   These items present much of the same material in the EDCS standard, only in an alternative format, and are more amenable to searching and direct comparison than the separate HTML files that comprise the standard.

The content of the database and the spreadsheet is based on the standard when it was published in 2005.  Since then, new entries have been added through the EDCS Registry.   If a database or spreadsheet with the most up-to-date registry content is desired, visit the EDCS Registry Download page.

Information technology - Spatial Reference Model (SRM)

ISO/IEC 18026 defines relevant aspects of spatial positioning and related information processing. It allows precise and unambiguous specification of geometric properties such as positions (locations), directions, distances, and times associated with spatial information.

Information technology - EDCS language bindings - Part 4: C

Access to the codes defined by ISO/IEC 18025 is through an API. The abstract specification for this API is defined in ISO/IEC 18025. Each part of ISO/IEC 18041 defines the binding of that abstract specification to a particular programming language. ISO/IEC 18041-4 defines a standard binding for the C programming language.

Access to the data types and concepts defined by ISO/IEC 18026 is through an API. The abstract specification for this API is defined in ISO/IEC 18026. Each part of ISO/IEC 18042 defines the binding of that abstract specification to a particular programming language. ISO/IEC 18042-4 defines a standard binding for the C programming language.
