7.2 Types of conformance

7.2.1 Conformance of an STF

A conforming transmittal encoded as specified in this part of ISO/IEC 18023 shall satisfy the following criteria:

  1. Each element is encoded in the manner specified in this part of ISO/IEC 18023.
  2. The syntax of the STF functionally conforms to the abstract transmittal format as specified in Part 2 of ISO/IEC 18023.

7.2.2 Conformance of generators

Conformance of STF generators is defined in terms of conformance to a particular profile of ISO/IEC 18023 as specified in 4.20 Profiles of Part 1 of ISO/IEC 18023.

If an STF generator G supports profile P of ISO/IEC 18023, G is a conforming P generator if G:

  1. generates only STF-encoded transmittals that conform to the requirements of profile P or is directed to operate in a mode where only such STF-encoded transmittals can be generated;
  2. generates no transmittal syntax in violation of Part 1 of ISO/IEC 18023; and
  3. generates no transmittal structure in violation of Part 2 of ISO/IEC 18023.

7.2.3 Conformance of interpreters

Conformance of STF interpreters is defined in terms of conformance to a particular profile of SEDRIS.

If P is a profile of ISO/IEC 18023 that conforms to the rules of this clause, an STF interpreter is a conforming P interpreter if it is able to read any STF-encoded transmittal that conforms to the requirements of profile P and the data is made available in accordance with the provisions of Part 1 of ISO/IEC 18023.
